About the Isle of Bute
Port Bannatyne has a very colourful history. At the turn of the 19th century it was a busy port of call for Clyde puffers and passenger ships. Remnants of this past era can still be seen from Ardenlea in the scenic old pier beside the house. Today the port is a haven for visiting yachtsman, walkers, golfers, fishermen and water sports enthusiasts. The Isle of Bute hosts many events throughout the year. The famous annual Bute Jazz Festival, the spectacular Bute Highland Games, and the Bute Agricultural Show, to mention but a few. From concerts to art festivals, whatever your interest it can be found on Bute.
The choice for eating out is extensive and can accommodate everyone’s budget. From tea rooms to top class restaurants the island offers extensive local produce served in a friendly manner. Rothesay’s famous Grade A-listed Winter Gardens now houses one of Scotland’s most innovative and exciting visitor centres. In the whole of Britain you are unlikely to come across a stately home as breathtaking and romantic as Mount Stuart. The house is a masterpiece of Victorian Gothic imagination. You feel a sense of wonderment in every room, from the magnificent marble hall to the radiantly white marble-chapel.
